Thunderhead Farm Colored Angora Goats
Bucks
We believe, as many do, that your buck is half your herd. Where an animal comes from genetically guides the evaluation but what he ultimately produces is key. When maintaining a small herd, emphasis on key traits is critical but not to the exclusion of producing well balanced animals. A proper frame covered with dense, uniform and lustrous fiber is a goal we are always working toward. Bucks have a specific job to do on a farm; they must also be manageable. Our bucks are encouraged from early in life to follow a grain bucket, but to keep a respectable distance. It is easy to be tempted to make "pets" of those cute, friendly little buck kids - but, can often produce not-so-cute adult behaviors. These guys tend to be big characters on their own, and we would have it no other way.

Does
To earn a spot in our breeding program does are evaluated not only for fiber quality and soundness of body but for good birthing ability and mothering instincts as well. Our colored breeding stock is exclusively from the red/black/brown (dominant black) gene pool. This allows us some small bit of color predictability. Fiber and structure characteristics are always in flux as we fine tune and retune results. In order to achieve these changes, we occasionally outcross to superior registered AAGBA stock for added fineness, cover and improvement to the lock structure.
As our herd is small, we put a good deal of weight on temperament as well. It has been our experience that behaviors are learned. Aggressive, mean or overly flighty does are not tolerated. Regular visits and interaction with the animals keeps them easy to work with and a constant source of entertainment. We enjoy interacting with our goats, but don't want them in our pockets all the time.

This Year's Kids - 2014
This year's kids will begin in March. Given our Northwest temperatures we prefer to kid out in the Spring. We are expecting a variety of colors; caramel, white and black - tons of glorious curls in the making! This year's kids will all be sired by a gorgeous red buck, Justin. He is the product of excellent breeding, a champion in his own right and has produced beautiful kids who went on to become champions themselves. Thank you Eureka! Mohair Farms.
