Thunderhead Farm Colored Angora Goats - Does
Does are evaluated not only for fiber quality and soundness of body but for good birthing ability and mothering instincts in order to earn a spot in our breeding program. Our colored breeding stock is exclusively from the red/black/brown (dominant black) gene pool. This allows us some small bit of color predictability. Fiber and structure characteristics are always in flux as we fine tune and re-tune results. In order to achieve these changes, we occasionally outcross to registered AAGBA stock for added fineness, cover and improvement to the lock structure. This has been very successful for us.
As our herd is small, we put a good deal of weight on temperament as well. It has been our experience that many behaviors are learned. Aggressive, mean or overly flighty does are not tolerated. Regular visits and interaction with the animals keeps them easy to work with and a constant source of entertainment. We enjoy interacting with our goats, but don't want them in our pockets all the time.

Bianca THF12304
DOB 3-20-12 Sire: Testarossa • Dam: Katidid Always one of the first to catch your eye, this doe is a standout in the pasture. She is an expert at struttin' her stuff. Bianca has lovely color, a dense silky fleece with excellent cover and tons of luster. The hand on this fine, dark silver-gray fleece is just lovely. To date this fiber is highly sought after. Kiva THF11012
DOB 4-5-11 SOLD
Sire: Jet Li • Dam: Kitt
Kiva is a white, twin to a blue sister. She has magnificent, tight, well bundled silky, fine locks uniformly covering a feminine, well proportioned body. Although born to a white doe by a black sire, she sports dark striped horns and hoofs giving us a promise that she is carrying the colored gene and might just reproduce her lovely self with a bit of color thrown in when bred to the right buck (and we think we got one this year). She is friendly and outspoken and always the first to greet us upon approaching the barn. She shears a ton of usable fleece.

Margaux THF11009
DOB 4-1-11 SOLD
Sire: Thorn • Dam: Mahogany
Shimmering white, this little one is the Shirley Temple of our goat world. She is densely covered with fine, tight ringlets, reminiscent of her sire. Mahogany, her dam, is quite possibly the darkest red we have ever bred, holding her color well into her golden years. Genetically Margaux holds the promise of wonderful things. Sporting a full mohair tail and tons of facial (including ears) fiber she seems to bounce around the pasture. As a fiber producer she has produced five spectacular fleeces with good length, blinding luster and a satin hand. She is one we will be watching closely!

Melody SLE 1494
DOB 2-18-08
Sire: Handsome Red Man • Dam: Pele
Excellent cover of fine, soft well formed locks on a great, deep body and she produces lovely kids. She is AAGBA registered and a really nice example of what the proper Angora should look like. Melody came to us from S & R Angoras in Washington (thank you Sandi and Russ for sharing her). Tons of real estate here to grow lots of fiber and carry kids.

Moonstruck THF09033
DOB 3-28-09 SOLD
Sire: Thorn • Dam: Makayla
This doe has taken her place as the pasture knockout; a position previously held by her very dark red grandmother, Mahogany. At 5 years old she remains true to her breeding, a striking beauty adding excellent production and mothering to her many attributes. Her fleece continues to boast tight, fine, well formed lustrous intensely white, uniform locks. Her fleeces are always the first to catch the eye of buyers and she delivers tons of it. Covered from head to toe she is in need of shearing in this picture. Bred red this year, to Justin, we hope to see a return of red in this line. We wouldn't object to twins either!

Pixie SLE 2009
DOB 2-12-02
Sire: Luschin • Dam: Peaches
Pixie is the senior doe in our herd. We were fortunate to get her from Sandy and Russ of S & R Angoras in Washington having been bred to a superior buck, Houston. We just couldn't walk away from a doe her age still producing very nice mohair. She has tons of real estate to grow mohair on and holds her own amongst younger does. She carries the color gene and we are hopeful she will show that side of her genetics this year. She produced Hud as proof that she has all the right genes to offer. Although showing her age and the effects of a hard winter on her current fleece, she is a great brood doe and caring nanny to all the kids.

DOB 3-9-11
Sire: Jet Li • Dam: Seneca
This doe is a super package, just like her mother was. She is covered in well formed locks with hooks at the end of each bundle. The rich, silver bister undertones of her fleece almost look liquid when washed laying in the sun to dry. She has proven to be a great mom. Much like most of the does, she does love her treats and rarely gets crowed out of her fare share.

Viola THF12302
DOB 3-19-13
Sire: Testarossa • Dam: Lightfoot SOLD
Curious and flirty, this is another favorite in the barn. She was born a light caramel and has retained that soft golden under glow. Viola has a lovely fleece; fine, silky and full of luster with a great hand. She is extremely well covered, very uniform and quite dense. Well built and strong she stands squarely over her feet. Bred red we are very anxious to see what she and Justin produce!
